John Gutierrez was born in San Jose, California. He moved to New York City in 2002 and immersed himself in film production. In 2003 while still attending NYU film school John directed a documentary on the god-father's of hip hop, The Last Poets. The film, 'When We Come Together' features: Kanye West, John Legend, Common, Chuck D., Erykah Badu and many more recording artists.
John's work on the documentary launched an editing career that brought him to edit music videos for Beyoncé, Duffy, Regina Spektor and many more. His editing work on the feature documentary 'Tom Petty & The Heart Breakers: Runnin' Down a Dream', (directed by Peter Bogdanovich) helped earn the film a Grammy Award for best long form music video in 2008.
John now directs films and commercial projects. In 2008 he teamed up with the fashion designer Rogan, Microsoft and New York Magazine to create a technological and aesthetically cutting-edge web series. 'Where's Rogan?' has gone on to win a number of awards including best web series and best microsite. John is currently working on directing a US / Spainish TV series entitled 'Sofia' as well as developing his first feature film.
